Electrosmog: combustion engine vs. e-car - where is the radiation higher?

Electromagnetic radiation is found almost everywhere nowadays, or at least it is now very difficult to avoid it completely. The Swiss magazine K-Tipp wanted to know how much electrical radiation is emitted by cars. The result is surprising.

In general, electrical devices generate weak magnetic fields. The WHO assumes that electrosmog has an influence on people's health and can cause headaches or lack of concentration if they are exposed to a certain amount of radiation for a certain time. Radiation is measured in units of Tesla, named after the physicist Nikola Tesla.

Normally, the radiation in the vicinity of electrical appliances is so low that it is even calculated only in nanotesla (nT). The German Institute for Building Biology classifies amounts of more than 100 nT in bedrooms as slightly noticeable. What about larger devices like cars?

In a test with a low-frequency measuring device, various models were put under the microscope. Surprisingly, the values are higher for combustion engines than for electric cars.

But regardless of whether it is a combustion engine or an electric car, both car models emit less than 100 nT in the head and hip area. Only in the foot area, where many cables and the batteries are located, are the values higher, namely an average of a good 430 nT in an e-car, but around 50 nT less in a combustion car. For comparison: In trains, these values are over 1000 nT. It is striking that a Tesla car has the lowest values of all vehicles, namely only 20 nT in the head and hip area and 100 nT in the foot area.

It is assumed that Tesla has specially covered all electrical parts such as batteries, cables and motors. This is not unusual and has only a limited connection with the protection of the occupants. After all, it is precisely where there is a lot of electrics that they need to be well shielded from each other so that they do not affect each other.

So the concern about being exposed to massive electrosmog in an electric vehicle is unfounded.
