Traffic turnaround: Hamburg bans combustion engine taxis
Only electric taxis are to be newly registered from 2025. The Hanseatic city wants to reduce emissions in the transport sector - and thus make faster progress in climate protection. Will other cities follow suit and become more involved in electromobility?
Driving ban for combustion engines: Will Europe become the biggest environmental zone?
The EU Parliament's decision on Tuesday to no longer allow new cars with combustion engines is causing concern for many motorists. The Greens, the Left and the Social Democrats voted in favour of only allowing second-hand cars with petrol and diesel to be driven in Europe. Now the question arises whether this was only the first step towards a complete ban of combustion engines on our roads.
Combustion engine phase-out: EU Parliament gives green light
As expected, the European Union Parliament approved the upcoming regulation for new cars on 14 February 2023. From 2035, new registered private cars and light commercial vehicles will be emission-free as part of the Union's transport and climate policy. However, not everything has been decided yet.
Air pollution in Germany: Time for new limit values?
Often, the currently valid pollution limits are complied with in many German cities, but the health hazard is far from being under control. Is it time to introduce new emission-reducing measures, including stricter limits and environmental zones? This is what the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) and Deutsche Umwelthilfe are calling for.
Munich: Carnival parade despite diesel driving-ban
High-emission tractors and trucks will power carnival wagons in German cities again this year - including in Munich, where new driving bans on internal combustion vehicles have been in force since the beginning of the month. Will the carnival tradition also become greener in the coming years?
Plug-in hybrids: Poor climate performance on the road
Plug-in hybrid models emit more CO2 in city and commuter traffic than stated - this is shown by a study by Transport & Environment (T&E). The environmental organisation is now calling for an end to tax breaks for part-time electric vehicles.
Smog alert: Air pollution goes through the roof
Current measurements in Germany and France show elevated levels of particulate matter. Advance warnings are active in Paris and other French cities and departments. The health risk for the population should not be underestimated.
(Still) no end to combustion engines for BMW
The lawsuit of the German Environmental Aid (DUH) failed at the Regional Court I in Munich. The car company will not be obliged to register any more combustion engine cars from 2030. However, this could still change in the future - at the latest with the introduction of Zero Emission Zones.
Highway-blockade: Is the Brenner dispute escalating?!
There seems to be no solution in sight to the issue of traffic management on the Brenner Pass. Above all, the volume of lorry traffic is unmanageable for Austria and neighbouring countries. Tyrol's FPÖ leader is calling for the closure of the A13 Brenner motorway in case of emergency and thus for complete truck driving bans.
E-Cars: lamppost becomes charging station
As part of a project to promote electromobility, the Berlin district of Spandau soon wants to make it possible to charge e-cars at street lamps. This should increase the charging possibilities for e-car drivers without overloading the power grid too much.
