E-fuels: Saving the combustion engine?
Unlike the EU Commission and Parliament, the environment and climate ministers have not explicitly called for a ban on combustion engines. If e-fuels were used, cars with combustion engines could still be allowed.
EU: Combustion cars to be phased out from 2035
The European Parliament has voted in favour of the ban. However, for it to have the desired effect, further measures are necessary. These include the creation and tightening of environmental zones and zero-emission zones.
Berlin: Zero-Emission-Zone from 2030?
Call busses, CO2-tolls and a ban on combustion vehicles in the city centre: this is how Berlin's Greens envision the mobility of the future. But the coalition partner is the first to reject the idea.
California: "Noise speed cameras" against loud exhausts
Soon, the US state will be tracking down noise offenders. Initially, six cities will participate in the pilot project.
Federated states want immediate speed limit
The conference decided in favour of a motorway speed limit. In this way, the environment ministries of the federated states want to advance climate protection and reduce dependence on fuel imports. Now the ball is in the federal government's court.
France's environmental zones are delayed
When the law on climate and its resilience ("Loi Climat et Résilience") was passed in France on 22 August 2021, many were sure that several low emission zones would be created in France this year. But with one month to go before the end of the year, there are still no low emission zones in many places. In part, there are nothing more than bureaucratic reasons for this.
Berlin mobility revolution failed
No city toll, no reduction of traffic and certainly no zero-emission zone: the left-wing coalition in Berlin could not reach an agreement on the adaptation of the mobility law. Thus, neither traffic nor air quality will probably change in the capital.
Train drivers' strike damages mobility change
The current train drivers' strike has almost completely stopped passenger transport - and that during the holiday season. This shows that the alternatives to the car cannot be relied upon.
Emissions scandal: car companies in court again
In the USA, the VW Group has suffered a legal defeat because of Dieselgate, which could cost it billions. In Germany, customers who want to take legal action against Daimler because of the so-called thermal windows probably have rather bad chances.
France fails in the climate fight
The country faces a 100 million euro fine for excessive air pollution. A two-month deadline set by the European Commission to reduce nitrogen oxide pollution passed unsuccessfully yesterday. At the same time, a French court ruled that the state was partly to blame for the country's climate damage.
