Bicycle instead of car - Paris in transition
A study by a public foundation has shown that more than one in ten journeys in Paris and the surrounding area are made by bicycle. This is a remarkable increase compared to 14 years ago, when less than one in thirty journeys were made by bike. Paris seems to have been endeavouring to change its transport policy for years. With more cycle paths and cycle lanes, fewer car parks and higher parking charges, the city is trying to promote cycling and reduce car traffic. But what does this mean for the existing low emission zone?
Neither 30 km/h nor more safety for pedestrians and cyclists: Federal Council stops new traffic law
It's official, Germany is on the road to a traffic law disaster! The Bundesrat has blocked a reform of road traffic law, which had envisaged more 30 km/h zones, play streets and bus and cycle lanes, head-on. The state governments have thus cancelled Transport Minister Wissing's proposal and brought us one step closer to the abyss.
Car-free model fails: Hanover goes back to pure cars
The Green mayor actually wanted to create a true miracle of transport policy. "Car-free" meant "no car too many" in the city. He wanted to reduce lanes, virtually abolish parking spaces in the city centre and focus on walking and cycling. The SPD has now pulled the ripcord and cancelled the coalition with the Greens. They want to focus on "low car use". This seems more like a paraphrase for "continuing the status quo".
Even without low emission zone: Hanover becomes car-free
The environmental zone in Hanover is being abolished. Nevertheless, Hannover wants to become a car-free model city: more space for pedestrian and bicycle traffic. Those who do not depend on their cars will no longer be allowed to drive them into the city center. Parking spaces are to be eliminated completely. Car-free: in Hannover's case, that means "not one car too many in the city".
Berlin: Stop the expansion of bike lanes?!
The Senate only wants cycling lanes where they do not interfere. CDU transport senator calls for a planning halt to all expansion projects in the capital that could interfere with car traffic. Berlin reacts with mixed opinions.
Berlin: Neighbourhood blocks cause trouble
In the Sprengelkiez in Wedding and in many other districts of Berlin, bollards regulate and restrict traffic. But residents remained alien to the decision and want it reversed. In other cities like London, too, traffic calming measures cause unrest and criticism among citizens.
Mobility turnaround: Will Frankfurt ban cars from 2035?
Fewer cars, more space for public transport and walking and cycling - this is Frankfurt's master plan to achieve the city's climate goals and become climate neutral by 2035. Above all, an expanded electric bus line and the promotion of green forms of mobility are to play an important role in this. Will cars be completely banned from the environmental zone?
Berlin: New mobility law for less traffic
Fewer parking spaces, reduced traffic areas and delivery zones - the Senate wants to have car traffic reduced and is planning measures to make Berlin's mobility more environmentally and urbanly compatible.
A traffic light against traffic emissions?!
In the Netherlands, and now also in Oldenburg in Germany, a cyclist traffic light switches faster to green in bad weather. Could this approach also be used in the case of heavy air pollution? could take place?
Berlin: Charlottenstraße becomes a bicycle lane
To compensate for the restoration of car traffic on nearby Friedrichstraße, the capital will open Charlottenstraße for bicycle traffic tomorrow. Future changes as part of a broader mobility plan for Berlin's inner city are also not yet ruled out, he said.
