Not allowed to drive (permanently): Vehicles without a badge may never enter the zone. Vehicles with B and C badge classes may only enter for parking. Motorcycles with the B and C badge classes are not allowed to enter between 10 pm and 7 am. Motorcycles with the badge classes 0 and Eco may enter at any time.

Area/extension of the environmental zone: The Madrid/Central area comprises the 6 districts of Palacio, Universidad, Justicia, Sol, Cortes and Embajadores and covers 472 hectares.
The access to the ZEZ is restricted, except for the roads of Santa Cruz de Marcenado, Mártires de Alcalá, Gran Vía de San Francisco, Bailén, Algeciras, Cuesta Ramón, Ventura Rodríguez and Duque de Liria.
The reason for these exceptions is that there are no alternative routes. The ZEZ Madrid/Central can be recognized by the 10 km long double red line and the 57 symbols that have been painted on the asphalt, as well as by the large white and green signs that have been placed on over 60 intersecting roads.
Special features: Foreign vehicles cannot yet receive a badge. To obtain an entry permit, please contact the Dirección General de Sostenibilidad y Control Ambiental - Ayuntamiento de Madrid (Municipality of Madrid): dgsostenibilidadymov@madrid.es.
Residents can send an “invitation” to their visitors 20 times a month, so that they do not need badges or special permits.

Type of environmental zone: LEZ environmental zone, depending on weather conditions, where driving bans and traffic restrictions are activated following the announcement of an early warning stage, a warning or an alarm by the City of Madrid if the levels of NO2 exceed 180, 200 und 400 µg/m³.
Not allowed to drive (temporarily): If the city council officially declares an air pollution peak, a speed limit of 70 km/h can be set on the M-30 and its access roads depending on the pollution level, or, in addition, a driving ban can be imposed for vehicles without a badge on the M-30 or inside the motorway ring road. In addition, the parking of vehicles equipped with B and C badge classes is prohibited.
If the pollution peak persists for 4 consecutive days, an additional driving ban may apply to B badge classes. Furthermore, taxis may only enter the zone with 0 and ECO badge classes.
