Low emission zone Madrid

Important!

Madrid has three environmental zones: Madrid/Central ZEZ, Madrid/M-30 LEZ, Madrid/City LEZ

Name of the environmental zone: Environmental Zone ZEZ Madrid/Central – Spain

Date of entry into effect of the zone: 23-10-2018

Type of environmental zone

Not allowed to drive (temporarily): Information currently unavailable

Not allowed to drive (permanently): Vehicles without a badge may never enter the zone. Vehicles with B and C badge classes may only enter for parking. Motorcycles with the B and C badge classes are not allowed to enter between 10 pm and 7 am. Motorcycles with the badge classes 0 and Eco may enter at any time.

Fines: 90 €

Area/extension of the environmental zone: The Madrid/Central area comprises the 6 districts of Palacio, Universidad, Justicia, Sol, Cortes and Embajadores and covers 472 hectares.
The access to the ZEZ is restricted, except for the roads of Santa Cruz de Marcenado, Mártires de Alcalá, Gran Vía de San Francisco, Bailén, Algeciras, Cuesta Ramón, Ventura Rodríguez and Duque de Liria.
The reason for these exceptions is that there are no alternative routes. The ZEZ Madrid/Central can be recognized by the 10 km long double red line and the 57 symbols that have been painted on the asphalt, as well as by the large white and green signs that have been placed on over 60 intersecting roads.

Special features: Foreign vehicles cannot yet receive a badge. To obtain an entry permit, please contact the Dirección General de Sostenibilidad y Control Ambiental - Ayuntamiento de Madrid (Municipality of Madrid): dgsostenibilidadymov@madrid.es.
Residents can send an “invitation” to their visitors 20 times a month, so that they do not need badges or special permits.

Czech Republic against electric cars

The EU's plan to drastically reduce the share of internal combustion cars in Europe does not please everyone. The Czech Republic's prime minister has now announced that he will vote against the ban on the sale of cars that run on fossil fuels. This could put the EU's timetable in jeopardy, as all 27 states would have to agree to the ban.

Fraud at charging stations?

Charging stations, regardless of whether they charge quickly or take longer, should not charge more electricity than the consumer receives. But this is far too often the case because many charging stations are not calibrated.

Electric vehicles ever more powerful

Two companies from Europe have set new records in electric mobility. The Swiss company Futuricum has proven that trucks can indeed cover long distances without having to be recharged in between. The company Zero Emission Services (ZES) from Rotterdam, on the other hand, is revolutionising inland navigation in the green heart of Holland.

Karlsruhe residents complain about too much delivery traffic

When the mayor of Karlsruhe stood for re-election almost a year ago, the Greens made their support conditional on several points: Parking fees were to be raised and a second bridge over the Rhine was to be dispensed with. Also under discussion were temporary driving bans and the possible introduction of a city toll. So far, however, this toll has not been an issue for the SPD mayor, so that until today there is only an environmental zone.

Export ban or expropriation of EURO 4 vehicles?

A new regulation for the sale of used cars could mean that they have to be scrapped. An EU directive is planned that will classify used cars with an exhaust emission class below Euro 5 as scrap in the future. This will make it increasingly difficult or impossible to sell them in poorer countries.

Noise protection zones are booming

In addition to air pollution in our cities, noise pollution is also increasingly coming into focus. Austria, Switzerland and France are leading the way. In Austria's Außerfern/Tyrol, loud motorbikes were already banned last year on particularly popular routes in the Tannheimertal, Hahntennjoch and Lechtal valleys. Anyone emitting more than 95 decibels has to pay a 220 € fine.

Tesla with filter against “bioweapons”

Lucky those who find themselves in a Tesla Model Y during a bioweapons attack! Because then it is not unlikely that you will survive -- as long as you don't get out. At least that's what Elon Musk says. On closer inspection, however, Tesla's new gadget turns out to be just a normal filter against fine dust, albeit a very effective one.
