World Environment Day

Green-Zones News

World Environment Day is an important day celebrated annually on June 5 to raise awareness of environmental issues and promote action to protect the environment. This day was established in 1972 at the first World Environment Conference and has since been supported by many countries around the world.

In Germany, World Environment Day has been celebrated since 1976 with various campaigns to draw attention to issues such as recycling, the destruction of nature and environmental awareness. The importance of the environment and nature conservation is particularly emphasized on this day to encourage people to actively work towards a sustainable future.

An important topic in connection with World Environment Day are measures such as environmental zones and electric cars. Low emission zones are specially designated areas in cities where only low-emission vehicles are allowed to drive. This is intended to help improve air quality and protect the health of people in urban areas. Electric cars are playing an increasingly important role in mobility, as they do not emit harmful exhaust gases and are therefore more environmentally friendly than conventional combustion engines.

The motto of World Environment Day 2024 in Germany is “Naturally take precautions: safety and protection in the climate crisis”. The aim is to highlight the urgent need for measures to reduce emissions of climate-damaging gases in order to counteract the negative effects of climate change. Precautionary measures and adaptation strategies should minimize the consequences of climate change and strengthen resilience to the effects of climate change.

The German Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change (DAS) and the Climate Change Adaptation Act play an important role in the implementation of climate change adaptation measures. The Federal Government is continuously working on the further development of strategies and goals in order to effectively meet the challenges of climate change.

Federal Minister Steffi Lemke is actively involved in discussions and events to mark World Environment Day in order to raise awareness of environmental issues and support measures to protect the environment. The importance of low emission zones and electric cars as an important contribution to sustainable mobility and air pollution control is emphasized.
