Stuttgart's diesel driving bans in the StadtPalais Museum

The exhibition "Feingestaubt" in the StadtPalais - Museum for Stuttgart tells the story of Germany's largest diesel driving ban zone. Visitors can experience the tug-of-war between politics, industry, science and the public over the controversial measure interactively and up close. Green-Zones® is also represented.

For years, the issue of diesel driving bans and particulate matter alerts has kept the city of Stuttgart on tenterhooks. Long considered the dirtiest city in Germany, it first introduced a comprehensive environmental zone and later several diesel driving ban zones, banning Euro 4 vehicles over a large area and Euro 5 vehicles in some sections.
From May onwards, the StadtPalais - Museum für Stuttgart will tell the story of this hotly debated topic in the exhibition "Feingestaubt". The special exhibition is set up with many experimental stations and stagings. The aim is to create awareness of the topic and to enable visitors to understand the different positions of the players from politics, industry, science and the public.
With many infographics and charts, the exhibition tells the story of the driving bans. Green-Zones® has also contributed to the exhibition with some graphic contributions. Visitors can contribute their own opinions at discourse tables, and together with Garten-, Landschafts- und Sportplatzbau Baden-Württemberg e.V., a green oasis has been created that makes it possible to experience Stuttgart as an air health resort, at least for a moment.
In reality, the debate on the subject of diesel driving bans in Stuttgart also continues. While the air improved significantly last year and the political opposition is thus calling for an end to diesel driving bans, the Stuttgart government is talking about new driving bans in the east of the city. At Talstraße, the air is as bad as nowhere else in Stuttgart. Between 43 and 49 micrograms of nitrogen oxide per cubic metre (µg/m³) were measured there last year. So the political tug-of-war continues.
The special exhibition "Feingestaubt" in the StadtPalais - Museum für Stuttgart is open to visitors from 15.05.2021 to 12.09.2021.
