Lucerne city centre becomes car-free

The trend continues: more and more cities are trying to make parts of their urban areas car-free.

After we have repeatedly reported in recent weeks about cities that are banning motor vehicles from most of their inner cities, another municipality is now joining this list. Lucerne has closed parts of the city to motor vehicles as of today. In addition, parking spaces for cars and motorcycles will be converted into bicycle parking facilities. Freshly laid out green areas with seating will also enrich and round off the new image in Lucerne's city centre. Several international metropolises have already declared war on the automobile and have already invested in the expansion of cycle paths, among other things, "favoured" by Corona. In Germany, too, the discussion about traffic-calmed city centres is gaining momentum and is largely gaining cross-party support. That's the right way to do it, and in our opinion it is long overdue!
