Electric highway pilot project gives cause for optimism
In southern Hesse, a transport project has been running for over a year now, which is unparalleled.
Since 2019, hybrid trucks have been able to recharge their batteries on the A5 motorway while driving over overhead lines. The futuristic-looking pilot project has more than exceeded the expectations of all participants despite the Corona pandemic and the resulting limited traffic. The "Electric Highway" will be tested until the end of 2022. Project manager Achim Reußwig on the further future of the principle as it is currently being tested on the A5: "The results should also be used as a basis for decisions that cannot be arbitrarily postponed into the future, whether this is a system that can be relied on. The future of logistics has begun.
