Cold shoulder for retrofitting
It was considered a universal solution to the diesel problem, but software upgrades are rarely used.
Environmentalists will not be pleased with this news: diesel drivers use the opportunity to retrofit their Euro 5 diesels with SCR catalytic converters almost never, as Der Spiegel reports. The retrofitting procedure is already mockingly called a pipe burst, and not without good reason. The technology is now on the market, but most diesel drivers sometimes do without the option of having their vehicle engines retrofitted. As an example, Daimler reckoned with 20,000 to 40,000 applications for subsidies for the described retrofits, but only 170 customers have submitted such an application so far.
