Air pollution detected in the embryo
This is the worrying result of a study by a Scottish and Belgian university. Traces of pollutants from the outside world were found not only in the placenta, but also in the developing foetus.

It's annoying: you drive into an environmental zone without noticing it and only find out about it when the fine notice flutters into your house. That doesn't have to be the case.
Ports are among the biggest producers of pollutants. The port of Antwerp therefore wants to reduce its emissions by at least half with a forward-looking project.
The new year is barely a few days old, but already there are important changes in the environmental zones in many European cities. Often the changes only affect individual cities, but sometimes they affect entire countries. But some tightening has been postponed, on the one hand because pollutants have decreased due to the pandemic-related decrease in traffic, and on the other hand because drivers want to be given enough time to adjust to innovations in difficult times. Green-Zones® lists the new rules for January.
The Berlin Senate has now evaluated a model test in which five busy main roads in Berlin were designated as 30 km/h zones. The results of the test are now available: Speed limit 30 reduces pollutant emissions. The Belgian capital Brussels is also highly satisfied after one year of 30 km/h speed limits.
Originally, a whole series of new rules and driving restrictions were to come into force in the year that is coming to an end. But the unpredictable pandemic led many municipalities and conurbations to postpone the introduction of an environmental zone or to abandon it altogether because pollution levels had improved. The latter may be directly related to the decreased traffic during the curfews. Nevertheless, we at Green-Zones® show where things are still happening and who will be affected by future driving bans in 2022.
The Flemish Minister for Transport and Mobility has presented an ambitious plan: From 2027, all new vehicle registrations are to be electric only. She assumes that the purchase price for electric cars will be the same as for petrol or diesel cars from 2025/26. Experts have doubts and fear difficulties for the used car market.
Since the introduction of the Low Emission Zone in Brussels in January 2018, the number of diesel vehicles has decreased significantly. The situation is quite different in France, however, where the first Low Emission Zone was introduced back in 2015.
The effects of air pollution not only damage the body, but also the psyche. This is what a Belgian study has found. More people go to the doctor or take sick leave when there is increased air pollution.
