Since 2018 - Registrations in Belgium
There are currently environmental zones in Belgium in the Brussels Region and Antwerp. From 2020 onwards, the environmental zone of Gent will enter into force and probably other smaller municipalities and towns in Flanders, such as Mechelen, Willebroek and others.
Unlike other countries, the badge is not mandatory in the Belgian environmental zones, but the registration of the vehicle is required before entering a zone. However, the registration does not apply to vehicles registered in Belgium and the Netherlands, as they are already registered in national databases.
In Flanders, all types of vehicles must currently be registered, with the exception of light vehicles such as mopeds, motorcycles, quads, etc. This mandatory registration option currently applies to Antwerp and Gent.
In the Brussels region, many types of vehicles are currently required to register, but this does not apply to light vehicles or agricultural vehicles.
The environmental zones in Belgium are not controlled by the police, but by automatic cameras. A fine between 150 and 350 euros will be imposed in case of an infringement.
Zoomable maps of all environmental zones with their boundaries as well as detailed information on the different vehicle types, EURO classes, weekdays, times, special rules and exceptions are available on www.lez-belgium.be or www.Green-Zones-App.eu
